Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Have a safe and happy holiday! This year has been full of happiness, laughter, tears, and some up and downs, but overall Room 6 has been a fun filled class.
Today at school we celebrated Diwali! Students could choose to dress up if they wanted to. Look at how beautiful Prarthna and Svasti look in their outfits. We love the bright colours!
Check out this video below that explains one of the stories behind Diwali:
Today we went on a trip to MOTAT. We were looking at technology and how it has changed over time. We loved seeing what technology was used in the "olden" days. We did this trip as this term our focus is technology. Later on in the term we will be creating our own inventions! Watch this space....
For Assembly this Friday we are performing Rocket Man with Room 5.
Callum from Room 5 is going to be playing on the piano.
Here is a video of him playing. Remember keep practising Room 6!
She packed my bags last night pre-flight Zero hour nine AM And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then I miss the earth so much I miss my wife It's lonely out in space On such a timeless flight

This afternoon the senior syndicate had Mrs Robb come and talk to us about how much sugar is in some of the foods we eat. We could not believe how much was in some of the drinks especially juices. It was a great afternoon where we had the opportunity to read a variety of packet labels ourselves too.
Thanks Mrs Robb, you rock!
Today we had Leo and Declan from Room 1 come and talk to use about their genius hour. They are planning to open the PE shed back up at lunchtimes. What a great idea boys!
We are currently having a Mystery Skype with another class somewhere in the word. What happens is we must send them five questions which can only be answered with yes or no. Then they reply answering our questions and asking us five new questions. The first one to find where the other school is located wins!
We love when our buddies come to visit us. Our Buddies are Room 20 and today they showed us a play they have been working really hard on. The play is called Maui and Sun. You did a great job Room 20, well done!
Today in Room 6 we read an article about how today is Earth Overshoot Day. Which means from the 2nd of August we are using more of Earth's natural resources than the planet can renew in the whole year. We could not believe it! Here is the article below if you would like to read it: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11898214 You can also find out what your carbon footprint is by putting your details in the calculator below: http://www.footprintcalculator.org/#!/
On Friday we built forts. We used what we could in the classroom and with sheets to create our "homes". We will be living out of them Monday and Tuesday next week. We love it in our "homes". Please come and visit them! Here are some photos of us reading to our buddies on Friday.
We are very excited to announce the arrival of our international students. In Room 6 we have Ben and Damian from China. They have settled into Room 6 really well and we have loved getting to know them. Ben is with us for two weeks and Damian for 5 weeks. Our awesome international ambassadors having been showing them around Sunnyhills.
Make sure you check out Room 6's art display in the art exhibition this week. The art exhibition is on the same nights as home partnership meetings. Our artwork is inspired by an artist called Romero Britto who is famous for his vibrant, colourful and bold art pieces.
In planning period one we learnt about the environment. We discussed this poster as a class today and we were shocked to see what the top four plastics were. We discussed ways we can cut this down or choose other options....
On Friday whilst some of the students were at the Farm Cove talk. Room 6 and some of Room 7 students created superhero costumes. All they could use was newspaper, one metre of sellotape and 10 staples. The costumes were very creative, Miss Coffer was very impressed!!
